How To Clean A Soft Tonneau Cover

Cleaning a soft tonneau cover is something that every truck or car owner should know how to do and it’s a relatively easy task. The covers, usually made from vinyl, are designed to protect the contents of your truck bed from the elements, dirt and damage. To keep your cover in prime condition, it’s essential to clean it correctly and regularly. Here’s our guide on how to clean a soft tonneau cover in seven simple steps:

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies. For best results, you will need some specific products such as mild soap, a medium-bristle brush, sponge or rag, soft cloth or chamois, tonneau cleaner (if available), wax (optional), and water.

Step 2: Remove Loose Debris. Before cleaning your tonneau cover, remove any debris from the top of the body and surrounding area with a brush or vacuum cleaner. This will help ensure that no extra dirt is added during the cleaning process.

Step 3: Mix Soap & Water. Fill up a bucket with lukewarm water and add some mild soap until you get a soapy solution that can be easily applied to the cover with either a sponge or rag. Make sure not to use too much detergent as this could potentially damage the fabric on your tonneau cover over time.

Step 4: Clean the Cover Surface. Now it's time to start scrubbing! Start by applying light pressure on the surface of your soft tonneau cover using the sponge or rag soaked in soapy water until all visible dirt is removed from both sides of the fabric.

Step 5: Rinse & Dry Off The Cover. Once you are done scrubbing away any dirt residue left behind after cleaning your tonneau cover make sure to rinse off all soap with fresh water using either a garden hose or bucket of plain water before drying off completely using either a chamois cloth or soft towel for best results.

Step 6: Apply Wax (Optional). If you want even more protection for your tonneau cover, applying some wax can be beneficial as it helps form an extra barrier between your truck bed and environmental factors such as UV rays and dust particles which can cause wear-and-tear over time if left unchecked. However, remember that waxing is optional; if you wish to avoid going through this extra step, skip ahead directly into step 7!

Step 7: Let The Cover Air Dry Completely Before Re-Installing It Back Onto Your Truck Bed. To avoid any potential damage to either side of your soft tonneau cover, we suggest leaving it out in direct sunlight until completely dry before putting back onto your vehicle once finished with the cleaning processes so that dirt won't be trapped inside while driving around afterward!
